The MQ8 Gas Sensor has a high sensitivity to hydrogen gas, and it can detect concentrations as low as 100 parts per million (ppm). MQ8 also has a fast response time, so it can quickly detect changes in the concentration of hydrogen gas.

MQ8 hydrogen gas sensor is a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) type sensor that is used to detect hydrogen gas. It is a low-cost, easy-to-use sensor that can use in a variety of applications, such as gas leakage detection, industrial safety, and environmental monitoring.

The MQ8 sensor works by measuring the change in conductivity of the sensor’s sensing layer when exposed to hydrogen gas. The sensing layer is made of tin dioxide (SnO2), which is a semiconducting material that changes its conductivity in the presence of different gases. When hydrogen gas is present, the conductivity of the sensing layer increases. This change in conductivity can measure by the sensor and use to determine the concentration of hydrogen gas in the air.

It is important to note that the MQ-8 sensor is not very tolerant of high voltages. If the heater voltage is too high, the sensor can damage. The circuit voltage should also be kept within the recommended range to prevent damage to the sensor.

The MQ-8 gas sensor requires two voltage inputs:

  • Heater voltage (VH): This voltage is used to heat the sensor’s sensing layer to a high temperature, which is necessary for the sensor to function properly. The heater voltage is typically 5V DC.
  • Circuit voltage (VC): This voltage is used to power the sensor’s circuitry and to measure the change in conductivity of the sensing layer. The circuit voltage is typically 5V DC.
