The MAX6675 Thermocouple Temperature Sensor performs cold-junction compensation and digitizes the signal from a type-K thermocouple. The data is output in a 12-bit resolution, SPI-compatible, read-only format.

MAX6675 Thermocouple Temperature Sensor resolves temperatures to 0.25°C, allows readings as high as +1024°C, and exhibits thermocouple accuracy of 8 LSBs for temperatures ranging from 0°C to +700°C. The MAX6675 is available in a small, 8-pin SO package.

This is a commonly used module for temperature measurement. Though the supplier rating for the thermocouple is 80C, we have run them up to 150C with no issues noted.

This MAX6675 Thermocouple Temperature Sensor and module makes use of the Maxim MAX6675 K-Thermocouple to digital converter IC to provide a microcontroller compatible digital serial interface (SPI compatible) to provide accurate temperature compensated measurement of the supplied K-Type thermocouple sensor.

It has a 12 bit resolution providing temperature readings from 0oC to 1024oC (max temperature of supplied sensor is 450oC) with a resolution of 0.25oC.

Screw terminals allow for connection to the thermocouples spade connectors and a 5 pin standard 0.1″ header provides an interface to a microcontroller such as an Arduino development board.
Supplied thermocouple sensor has a diameter of 4.5mm with a 6mm threaded mounting bolt. Total length of sensor including cable and spade connectors is ~50cm.

The MAX6675 Thermocouple Temperature Module is a K-Type thermocouple with digital converter that has a range of 0°C up to 80°C with the supplied thermocouple and up to 1024°C with a suitable high temp thermocouple.

MAX6675 Thermocouple Temperature Sensor come in many different varieties from very fine wires if you want to measure a small object, to very thick metal sheathed wires with very high temperature ranges. The module interfaces with a microcontroller via a 3-wire SPI interface.

Connection : –

  • GND = Connect to system ground. This ground needs to be in common with the MCU.
  • VCC = Connect to 3.0 to 5.5V. Typically connected to the power of the MCU.
  • SCK = Serial Clock Input. Connect to any digital pin on MCU.
  • CS = Chip Select. Connect to any digital pin on MCU.
  • SO = Serial Data Output. Connect to any digital pin on MCU.
