10K Variable Potentiometer (Pot) is a three-terminal device that employs a resistive element and a rotating contact to form an adjustable voltage divider.

If only two terminals are used, one end of the element and the adjustable contact, it acts as a variable resistor or rheostat.

The 10K Variable Potentiometer are very useful in changing the electrical parameters of a system. It is a single turn 10k Potentiometer with a rotating knob. These potentiometers are also commonly called as a rotary potentiometer or just POT in short

10K Variable Potentiometer work by varying the position of a sliding contact across a uniform resistance. In a potentiometer, the entire input voltage is applied across the whole length of the resistor, and the output voltage is the voltage drop between the fixed and sliding contact.

10K Variable Potentiometer has the two terminals of the input source fixed to the end of the resistor. To adjust the output voltage the sliding contact gets moved along the resistor on the output side.

The rating or “resistive” value of a potentiometer or variable resistor relates to the resistive value of the entire stationary resistance track from one fixed terminal to the other. So a potentiometer with a rating of 1kΩ will have a resistive track equal to the value of a 1kΩ fixed resistor.
