DIAC DB3 Trigger Diode is a device of the thyristor family. DIAC means Diode Alternating current. Diode + Alternating current.

This is a type of diode that works in both reverse and forward bias. This diode work on the complete cycle of AC means this work during a positive half-cycle and also during a negative half cycle of the AC waveform.

The DIAC is a bidirectional semiconductor switch that can be turned on in both forward and reverse bias polarities of AC signals. This allows current in both forward bias and reverse bias direction.

DIAC DB3 Trigger Diode functions as a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference and can be used in conjunction with triacs for simplified gate control circuits and as a starting element in fluorescent lamp ballasts.

DB3 trigger diode (Diac) is a bidirectional diode which has a two-terminal with asymmetric conductance.

DIAC DB3 can be used to conduct in both forward and reverse direction. It offers low resistance to current flow in one direction, and high resistance in the other direction.

It is a two terminal device so it does not have a gate terminal like Triac to make it start conducting current, so it starts conducting only when applied voltage goes beyond the break-over voltage.

DB3 diac is used in rectifier circuits, switching devices, short circuiting protection purposes.

DIAC DB3 Trigger Diode is used as a trigger device in various applications such as phase control circuits of motor speed control, light dimmers, heat controls, and many other control circuits.

Functioning as a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference, the DB3/DB4 series can be used in conjunction with triacs for simplified gate control circuits or as a starting element in fluorescent lamp ballasts.
