The MQ7 Gas Sensor Module detects the concentrations of Carbon Monoxide (CO) or coal gas in the air. MQ7 CO Gas Sensor is a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensor that is used to detect carbon monoxide (CO) gas. It is a relatively inexpensive sensor that is easy to use and can be calibrated to measure CO concentrations in the air.

The MQ7 Gas sensor works by measuring the change in resistance of a tin dioxide (SnO2) sensing element when it expose to CO gas. In clean air, the SnO2 element has a high resistance. When CO gas is present, the SnO2 element’s resistance decreases. The amount of decrease in resistance is proportional to the concentration of CO gas in the air.

MQ7 Carbon Monoxide Gas Sensor has a typical operating range of 10 to 10,000 parts per million (ppm) of CO gas. The sensor’s output is an analog voltage that can measure by a microcontroller or other electronic device.

MQ7 Gas sensor has a 5V input voltage. This means that you will need to connect the sensor to a power supply that provides 5V DC. The sensor also has a 1.5V heating voltage, which is used to heat the sensor element. This voltage is applied to the sensor for 60 seconds when the sensor is first turned on, and then it is switched to 5V.

MQ7 Carbon Monoxide Gas Sensor is a relatively simple sensor to use, but it is important to follow the correct voltage requirements to prevent damage to the sensor.

Features: –

The MQ7 Gas sensor has both digital and analog inputs. The digital input is used to detect the presence of CO gas. When CO gas is present, the sensor’s digital output will go high. The analog input is used to measure the concentration of CO gas. The output voltage of the analog input is proportional to the concentration of CO gas in the air.

Here are some of the benefits of using the MQ-7 gas sensor’s digital and analog inputs:

  • Inexpensive: The MQ-7 gas sensor is a relatively inexpensive sensor, making it a good option for budget-minded projects.
  • Easy to use: The MQ-7 gas sensor is easy to use, making it a good option for beginners.
  • Wide operating range: The MQ-7 gas sensor has a wide operating range, making it a good option for a variety of applications.
  • Fast response time: The MQ-7 gas sensor has a fast response time, making it a good option for applications where rapid detection is important.
  • Digital Input: The digital input can use to detect the presence of CO gas in a binary fashion.
  • Analog Input: The analog input can use to measure the concentration of CO gas in a more precise fashion.
  • The sensor can use with a variety of microcontrollers and other electronic devices.

MQ7 Gas Sensor Specifications : –

The MQ7 CO Gas sensor can use with a variety of microcontrollers and other electronic devices. To use the sensor with a microcontroller, you will need to connect the sensor’s digital and analog inputs to the microcontroller’s corresponding pins. You can then use the microcontroller’s software to read the sensor’s output and determine the concentration of CO gas in the air.

Here are some of the specifications of the MQ-7 gas sensor:

  • Operating voltage: 5V
  • Heating voltage: 1.5V
  • Operating temperature: -10 to 50 degrees Celsius
  • Humidity: 0 to 95% RH
  • Sensitivity: 10 to 10,000 ppm
  • Response time: 30 seconds
  • Accuracy: +/- 30%
  • Lifespan:  3 to 5 years

MQ7 Gas Sensor Applications : –

The MQ-7 gas sensor is a good option to consider if you are looking for a way to measure CO gas in the air. It is relatively inexpensive, easy to use, and has a wide operating range. However, it is important to note that the MQ-7 gas sensor can be affected by other gases, such as ethanol and methane. It also needs to calibrate regularly to ensure accurate measurements.

The MQ-7 gas sensor is a versatile and affordable sensor that can use to detect CO gas in a variety of applications, such as:

  • Home and industrial safety
  • Vehicle emissions testing
  • Medical monitoring
  • Environmental monitoring
