The VL53L0X is a Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser-ranging sensor that can measure distances up to 2 meters with a resolution of 1 mm. VL53L0X Time Of Flight Sensor uses a laser emitter to send out a pulse of infrared light and then measures the time it takes for the light to reflect back to the sensor.

The VL53L0X Time Of Flight Sensor can also report the ambient light level, which can use to improve the accuracy of the distance measurements. The VL53L0X sensor is a small, round sensor with a black plastic housing. It has a single I²C interface and a few other pins for power and reset.

Sensor VL53L0X uses a time-of-flight (ToF) method to measure distance. A laser emitter in the sensor sends out a pulse of infrared light, and the sensor then measures the time it takes for the light to reflect back to the sensor. The distance to the object is then calculated based on the speed of light.

The sensor VL53L0X can measure distances up to 2 meters with a resolution of 1 mm. VL53L0X Distance Sensor is also relatively accurate, with a typical accuracy of ±3%. The sensor is also immune to ambient light, so it can be used in a variety of lighting conditions.

The VL53L0X laser distance sensor has a recommended input voltage of 2.8 V. However, VL53L0X Distance Sensor can also operate at voltages between 2.6 V and 5.5 V. If you are using the sensor with a microcontroller that operates at a different voltage, you will need to use a voltage regulator to provide the correct voltage to the sensor.

Features : –

The VL53L0X distance sensor can operate at a frequency of up to 400 kHz. This means that it can measure the distance to an object up to 400 times per second. The actual frequency at which the sensor operates will depend on the mode that it is in. For example, the sensor will operate at a lower frequency in long range mode than it will in short range mode. The sensor’s frequency can be set using the I²C interface.

  • High accuracy: The VL53L0X sensor can measure distances with an accuracy of up to ±3%. This makes it a good choice for applications where accuracy is critical, such as robotics and autonomous vehicles.
  • Long range: The VL53L0X sensor can measure distances up to 2 meters. This makes it a good choice for applications where long range sensing is required, such as level measurement and gesture recognition.
  • Immunity to ambient light: The VL53L0X sensor is immune to ambient light. This means that it can use in a variety of lighting conditions, including bright sunlight.
  • Small form factor: The VL53L0X sensor is a small, compact sensor. This makes it easy to integrate into a variety of devices, such as robots, drones, and smartphones.
  • Easy to use: The VL53L0X sensor is easy to use. It can interface with a variety of microcontrollers using the I²C interface.

VL53L0X Distance Sensor Specifications : –

The VL53L0X laser distance sensor works on the principle of time-of-flight (ToF). A laser emitter in the sensor sends out a pulse of infrared light, and the sensor then measures the time it takes for the light to reflect back to the sensor. The distance to the object is then calculated based on the speed of light. Here are some of the specifications of the VL53L0X TOF Laser Range Sensor:

  • Range: up to 2 meters
  • Resolution: 1 mm
  • Accuracy: ±3%
  • Ambient light immunity: Yes
  • Operating voltage: 2.6 V to 5.5 V
  • Current draw: 10 mA to 4 mA
  • Interface: I²C
  • Form factor: Small, round sensor

VL53L0X Distance Sensor Pin Descriptions : –

The VL53L0X uses the I²C interface to communicate with microcontrollers. The I²C interface is a two-wire bus that is commonly used for communication between devices on a single board. The VL53L0X’s I²C address is 0x29.

The XSHUT pin can use to power down the sensor. When the XSHUT pin is pulled low, the sensor will enter a low-power state. This can be useful when the sensor is not in use to conserve power.

The GPIO1 pin can use for a variety of purposes. It can use to generate interrupts, or it can use to output data. The GPIO1 pin can be configured using the sensor’s registers.

Pin Name Description
VCC Power supply The sensor’s power supply pin. The recommended voltage is 2.8 V, but it can also operate at voltages between 2.6 V and 5.5 V.
GND Ground The sensor’s ground pin.
SCL Clock The sensor’s I²C clock pin.
SDA Data The sensor’s I²C data pin.
XSHUT Power down The sensor’s power down pin. This pin can be used to power down the sensor when it is not in use.
GPIO1 GPIO The sensor’s GPIO pin. This pin can be used for a variety of purposes, such as interrupt generation or output.
