74LS01 is a quad 2 input NAND gate IC. It is a low power Schottky (LS) version of the 7401, which was the first commercial integrated circuit. In digital electronics, a NAND gate is a logic gate which produces an output which is false only if all its inputs are true; thus its output is complement to that of an AND gate.

The 74LS01 has four independent NAND gates. Each gate has two inputs and one output. The output of a NAND gate is low (0 V) when both inputs are high (1 V). The output is high (1 V) when either input is low (0 V)

It achieves a high−speed operation similar to equivalent Bipolar Schottky TTL while maintaining the CMOS low power dissipation almost like LS-TTL gates. In this IC, the open collector outputs require pull−up resistors to function correctly. They may be connected to other open-collector outputs to implement active−low wired−OR or active−high wired−AND functions. Open collector devices often used to generate higher VOH levels.
