The LDR resistor’s resistance decreases in the presence of light and increases in the absence of it. The output of the module is analog and can be used to control a variety of devices, such as LEDs, motors, and relays.

LDR Module KY-018 3Pin LM393 Based Photosensitive Sensor Module is compatible with many popular microcontrollers, such as Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. It can be used to create a variety of projects, such as light sensors, light switches, and light meters.

LDR Module LM393 KY-018 is using a high-quality LM393 voltage comparator. use to detect the presence of light / measuring the intensity of light. The output of the LDR module goes high in the presence of light and it becomes low in the absence of light.

The sensitivity of the signal detection can be adjusted using potentiometer. The working principle of an LDR Light Sensor Module is photoconductivity, which is nothing but an optical phenomenon.

Driving ability is 15mA with the adjustable potentiometer, it can adjust the brightness of the light detected. Working voltage is 3. 3V to 5v.

Where output is digital switch output. Since this module is sensitive to the light, usually used for detecting the ambient brightness and light intensity.

KY-018 LDR Module Variable Resistor

The LDR sensor module has an onboard variable resistor or potentiometer, this variable resistor is a 10k preset. It use to set the sensitivity of this LDR sensor.

Rotate the preset knob to adjust the sensitivity of the light intensity detection. If we will rotate the preset knob in the clockwise direction, the sensitivity of the light intensity detection will increase.

If it rotated counterclockwise direction, the sensitivity of the light intensity detection will decrease.

KY-018 LDR Module Power LED : –

This onboard LED indicates the LDR sensor module power supply is ON or OFF. When we turn on the sensor power supply this Green LED is also turn on.

Photoresistor LDR Light Sensor Module Output LED: –

When the LDR sensor detects the light, the green LED is turn on. When the LDR sensor detects the darkness, the green LED is turn off.

  • Photosensitive resistor module most sensitive to environmental light intensity is generally use to detect the ambient brightness and light intensity.
  • Module light conditions or light intensity reach the set threshold, DO port output high, when the external ambient light intensity exceeds a set threshold, the module D0 output low;
  • Digital output D0 directly connected to the MCU, and detect high or low TTL, thereby detecting ambient light intensity changes;
  • Digital output module DO can directly drive the relay module, which can compose of a photoelectric switch;
  • Analog output module AO and AD modules can connect through the AD converter, you can get a more accurate light intensity value
