5mm IR LED 940nm Infrared Transmitting Diode

A 5mm IR LED 940nm Infrared Transmitting Diode or Infrared light-emitting diode (IR LED) is a special purpose LED emitting infrared rays ranging from 700 nm to 1 mm wavelength. Different IR LEDs may produce infrared light of differing wavelengths, just like different LEDs produce light of different colors.

5mm IR LED 940nm Infrared Transmitting Diode or “Infrared Light Emitting Diode” allows to emit light with the wavelength of up to 940nm, which is the infrared range of electromagnetic radiation spectrum. The wavelength range varies from 760nm to 1mm.

These infrared emitting LEDs operate at 940nm and used for creating IR remote control or IR obstacle and intrusion sensors.

5mm IR LED 940nm Infrared diodes are characterized by strong structure, corrosion resistance, high reliability and long life. The device is matched to infrared receiving diode. Infrared emitter can be used for ordinary electronic devices, such as office equipment, communication equipment, and house decoration.

Infrared is the light spectrum up around 940 nm that is commonly used for IR remotes and is outside the visible spectrum for the human eye.

5mm IR LED 940nm are very useful for adding IR capability to a project including everything from making a custom IR remote for your TV to creating a custom serial IR communication link for a robot project or to make an intrusion detector if the IR signal is blocked.

IR LEDs are usually made of gallium arsenide or aluminum gallium arsenide. In complement with IR receivers, these are commonly used as sensors.

The appearance of IR LED is same as a common LED. Since the human eye cannot see the infrared radiations, it is not possible for a person to identify if an IR LED is working. A camera on a cell phone camera solves this problem.
